A Soothing Apartment in the Heart of Gothenburg, Sweden

In yesterday's post I talked about my dream house by the sea (just like the one the danish family lived in - wasn't it stunning?!) one day, friends, one day! I noticed on Instagram, many of you felt the same. Today, can we indulge ourselves a little more - and say that we'd also need a Scandinavian pied à terre (for those meetings, concerts, shopping trips, hanging out with friends)?! A sort of best-of-both-worlds life spanning beach-city, Sweden-Denmark?! I'm thinking this apartment in Gothenburg, Sweden could do the trick. It's more or less a studio (the bedroom doubles up as a sitting room and workspace) but with a separate bedroom and large spacious rooms full of light. The soft shades of grey, and cosy textures in muted colours create a lovely, soothing feel. Let's take a peek...

What do you think?!

Could you imagine returning here each evening after a hectic day? How lovely would that be?!

In case you're wondering about a few of the items, here's a quick round-up: bedroom - moss blanket,
Globe mobile, stonewashed pleated linen bed skirt (I love this!), this bedside lamp is similar. Sitting room - Söderhamn sofa, HAY tray table, green velvet cushioncapuccino throw / blanket. Kitchen - Thonet chairs.

See more homes in shades of grey here - kind of soothing right?

Have a lovely day!

PS French speaking friends- I'm excited to see two interviews from my Lagom Book tour in Paris are now live over at La Trésorerie (who stock my book) and Pleine Vie, if you fancy discovering a little more about it!

PPS I'm having a few problems with my blog comment section right now - I can read your (wonderful) comments but can't reply. We're urgently looking into it so bear with me, but please don't stop, I love hearing from you!

Embracing the grey, Swedish style

When it starts to get cold and grey outside sometimes the only way is to embrace it. Like in this Swedish home! For some it might be missing that dash of colour - for others it's an oasis of calm and serenity. Either way, there's definitely a little inspiration in here for all (a triple row of pillows might be a good place to start -  just how much do you want to sink into that bed right now?!). Put up your feet, take a fika and enjoy the tour!

So calm! I'm liking the hooks and round mirror (they're everywhere right now) in the bedroom - so simple to replicate - and yet lovely too!  I there anything that stands out to you?

Get the look: sitting room - Jetson armchair, Tati sofa table, bestlite wall sconce, the black and white spotted and stonewashed white linen cushions are similar, source similar prints at The Poster Club (would love to know who the swimmer is by - any tips?!). dining - wishbone chair. bedroom - round mirror, wooden hook rack, white bestlite wall sconce.

See more Scandinavian homes in shades of grey here - or for lovers of bolds and brights - you'll love this colourful home archive!

Super excited to receive the French version of my Lagom book in the post yesterday - eeeeee! It's available for pre-orders here and will launch on 2nd November, 2017! Merci beaucoup!

Have a lovely day!

PS I hope you don't mind a mini reminder to vote for My Scandinavian Home in the Domino Design Blogs Awards (category 'Best International Design Blogs' - I'd be so happy if you do :)

A beautiful home with earthy tones and natural materials

It's nearly the weekend - eeeeee! Any great plans?! It's going to be kinda low key around here. This evening we're off to visit my parents-in-law who live in a small fishing village further up the coast. It's a beautiful place, with coastal walks and open countryside. OK, I relent - the Iittala outlet, fabulous Höganäs saluhall (food hall) and Magasin 36 is also just down the road - I might just tip toe out for an hour or two! Speaking of beautiful items for the home - I came across a new Instagram feed earlier on in the week and was completely bowled over - do you follow Anna Cor? Berlin based Anna is a Visual Storyteller - with specialist skills in photography, styling and creative direction and her instagram feed is teeming with the most beautiful images  - including snapshots from her serene home, super cute children (and the most charming kids clothing), food and travel. There's a classic, pared-back touch to everything she turns her hand to - and an emphasis on subtle changes in textures and natural materials. Here's a peek inside her home.

Just how serene is Anna's home?  I love the combination of earthy tones in blue, grey, and pink and natural textures such as pure wood and linen. How about you?

Looking at the tags, I was happy to note that Anna works with many bespoke pieces which have been handmade by small, independent craftspeople (as well as the odd Scandinavian brand). Here's a quick round-up on where things are from:

sitting room - wooden coffee table by By spielplatz. dining room - stonewashed linen tablecloth, bedroom - crinkle bedspread (love this) wooden tray from The Oakmen, ball vase by Catcooee. children's room - rose Milkway bedding by Ferm Living (I also love this rabbit bedding set too - so cute!), ceramic vase by Anna Diekman (check out her page!), spotted black and white bag from Liilu, wooden rack with hooks from Granit.

Anna's home is kind of a soothing way to end the week don't you think? I hope it's given you a little inspiration for your home too?!

If you love Anna's style you might be interested to hear she runs styling and photography workshops - the next one is with Simona Hawlisch (who also has an inspiring instagram feed!) and is centred around the theme of winter and Christmas (it sounds amazing!). You can find more information about it here.

Have a wonderful couple of days - and see you Monday!

PS If you'd like to vote for My Scandinavian Home in the Domino Design Blog Awards - where I was thrilled to be selected as a semi-finalist in the category 'Best International Design Blog'!, I'd be so happy (you can vote once a day...). It's also a great place to find out about other blogs you might like to follow - all of which are truly inspiring!

Get the look: a calm Swedish apartment!

Hello! So it's back to Sweden today and a tour of a lovely apartment in Gothenburg. Safe to say, if I was to envisage my dream apartment, this would be it. The original period features, high ceiling and light wood floor are perfection - and I can already picture myself throwing open the balcony door and drinking in the sunlight (along with my extra strong coffee!), not to mention getting together for a candlelit dinner with friends in the kitchen. Getting carried away - who me?!  The beautiful space has been decorated in shades of grey, pops of brass and cognac and the hint of a pale pink accent which is so very now and yet timeless too. I spy some very fine classics too. Enjoy the tour!

Beautiful photography by Anders Bergstedt for Entrance.

Could you imagine living here too?!

I guess we can't all move to Gothenburg in an instant (sadly), but we can still get the look! Here are a few items I love (links beneath):

1. Mobil 5 pendant  2.  Dusty rose linen cushion 3. Slope leather dining chair 4. Ikea cabinet
5. Round jute mat 6. Lup wall candle holder (feeling like I need one of these in my life!) 7. Mantis BS2 wall light 8. Hay oak elephant table 9. Thonet dining chair 10. grey linen tablecloth (available in different sizes).

News in from Sarah (thank you!) - the fab brass shower is from Swedish shop Tapwell.

Off for a very late lunch at Malmö Saluhall (one of my fave lunch spots - take a peek on Instagram stories to see why!) and then planning a little photography at home today - will need to play some tunes and light a candle or two to set the mood (it's kind of dark outside) - what are you up to?

Have a lovely day!

A calm and elegant Swedish home

Hello! We have a birthday in Da house! My daughter's turns 7 today! And as you might know already, we take birthdays very seriously (after all, everyone deserves a very special day - and you only turn 7 once, right?!). In between pancakes (with blueberries, raspberries and Swedish honey), present opening and bowling (guh! - the things we do to keep our little ones happy!) I found a window to share this very lovely Swedish apartment with you. It immediately struck me as calm, elegant and sophisticated - a great combination! The space has been styled for sale and the images de-saturated somewhat - but you can still pick up on the grey, green, brass and dusty pink hues and there's so much inspiration from the details too! Enjoy!

Photography - Alvhem, found via Coco Lapine Design with thanks!

I love so many things about this home - the duck print (how fabulous is the kitchen in general by the way?!), the pendant over the table (any tips on where this is from?), little brass plant mister, the Platner coffee table and mantis table lamp on the desk (I've got the same one on mine!!) as well as the beautiful brass coat rack (again, tips welcome!). Oh, and if you're up for a similar round mirror check out our round-up from last week.

Is there anything that caught your eye?

Right, better get on with the birthday celebrations... have a great day!

PS - in case you missed it, I shared the final two short films from my greenhouse make over with Emily Henderson yesterday! Seeing the project on film makes me want to hunt for my very own greenhouse here in Sweden - are you tempted?!
